DESCRIPTION
===========

This zip file contains modified track.ini files for Grand Prix Legends.

These ini files implement a different grid layout for the start of the race, which gives each car more room. The layout is a 1x1 staggered grid for all tracks (brought to 1967 from modern F1 by some traveller in time).

More room at the start is very helpful in online races, where crashes happen very frequently as the result of latency and warping, and inexperienced drivers taking part.

The file names are in the form trackol<n>.ini, where ol stands for "on line" and <n> is the distance between two cars on the grid.

With distance 8 the cars are quite far apart, and overtaking at the start will be difficult. Shorter distances may be preferred for races with good connections to have a closer start and better overtaking opportunities as a reward for a good start.

The number of drivers who can see the flag is as follows. Drivers at the back will need full detail bias to see the flag. An alternative is to watch the other cars.

HOW TO USE
==========

This procedure has to be carried out by the host only. Guests who join the race will use the modified settings automatically, even if they do not have the modified track.ini files.

Installing the files:

1. If you have used the modified grids before, put back the original grids for every track as track.ini. Then remove trackren.bat from the gpl tracks dir, as it will not work for the newly added tracks.

2. Unzip the files from this zip (1.6) to the GPL tracks directory with the Winzip box 'Use folder names' checked. If you don't want them all, use a pattern or select individual files when extracting.

3. Backup the original grid for all tracks by running this command in a dos box from the GPL tracks directory: trackcpy save trackorg. The backup files will be named trackorg.ini.

4. Install the desired grid for all tracks by running a command like this: trackcpy install trackol8.

5. To install for one track only, you need to copy the desired file to track.ini in that track's directory by hand.

6. To restore the original grids, use trackcpy install trackorg (assuming you performed step 3)

7. Type trackcpy without arguments for usage instruction.

8. When adding a track to GPL that is in the list above, follow these steps to make sure you won't loose the track's original grid:
   a. add the new track to GPL
   b. copy the new track's track.ini to trackorg.ini by hand
   c. install the desired grid for the new track by hand

Enjoy!
